With four children in the family, my wife Pip and I are about half way through our 16 years as Lake Tekapo School parents, and it seemed a very good time to become more involved with this wonderful place of fun, discovery and skill. My own school years were in the UK, finishing with a degree in Geography from the University of Leeds, after which I travelled around the world and have called Tekapo home for the last 13 years. I have a keen interest in maintaining the unique culture we have at our school, where students, staff and parents are all working together to ensure our education is firmly placed in our stunning environment. If we all love living here, then we should love learning here too. We have exciting times ahead with the new school build project getting underway and I’m very happy to have the property portfolio on the Board to make sure we have all the right people working to make these new buildings something exceptional for generations to come.
I work as a pilot for Air New Zealand, and in my time away from that we have a busy fun life as a family, with our bikes, our boat and our skis. I’ve also been part of our local volunteer fire brigade for 8 years now, which is a privilege in such a caring community.

Kia Ora,

My name is Simon, it is a privilege to be able to serve and assist to continue momentum with the fantastic works that the dedicated staff and previous board members have already contributed to Tekapo School. I live in Tekapo and have resided here with my family for the past four years. In my role as a Hotel General Manager I have lived in a number of different communities throughout my career, I can say without hesitation that the warmth and sincerity of the Tekapo community has by far exceeded any other I have called home previously. The friendly and inclusive fabric of our community is a credit to all residents both past and present, some like myself only very recently settling, others have call Tekapo home for generations, all who without hesitation extend a hand to those who are only new to town and old or new, to those in need. This diversity and inclusion in our community is such a key strength and one that underpins the outstanding work that Tekapo School does as a truly community based learning facility.

I am a parent of four, two currently attending Tekapo School with two more that are incredibly excited to attend in the coming years, I have great faith in the education these children will receive, competencies and skills that will establish them as lifelong learners. It Is my hope that skill’s and friendships formed here will transcend their time at school and will help to guide them, standing them in fine stead, on their own individual journeys of life, wherever those journeys may lead them.

It is a great honour to have been entrusted this kaitiaki and I pledge I will do all that I can to ensure that all students are awarded the opportunity to achieve their very best whilst ensuring that the values of our community are observed and respected.

I look forward to serving your school,

Yours sincerely,

Simon Tocker
