Recognising Achievement/Social Comptencies


The Lake Tekapo School Staff and Board of Trustees believe that the Key Competencies should be integrated across the school authentically and our behaviour and rewards programme should be reflected through these competencies.   These competencies reinforce the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values we need in everyday life to contribute successfully in the future.

A Brief Description of each Key Competency

 

Managing Self

Self-motivation – a “can do” attitude. An ability to establish personal goals, make plans and set high standards for oneself. This is about students knowing who they are? , Where they come from?,  and How they fit in.

The School will monitor the following skills:

Interacting effectively with a diverse range of people in a variety of settings. The ability to listen actively, recognise different points of view, negotiate and share ideas.

Using creative, critical and reflective processes to make sense of and question information, experiences and ideas.

Language, Symbols and Texts

The school’s objectives for ENGLISH and MATHEMATICS & STATISTICS are the basis of this competency.  Those objectives connect across all learning areas and activities.

 

  • Knowing languages and symbols are systems for representing and communicating information, experiences and ideas.

  • Using languages and symbols to produce texts of all kinds: written, spoken, visual, informative and imaginative, informal and formal, mathematical, scientific and technological.
